1️⃣ <500k Range – Music Niche Site Earning $10,211/mo

12 years old — $398,000 asking price

Every once in a while, even after almost 20 years, we’re still amazed at how some simple websites can earn a solid income online. We sourced this site for our client because it’s highly passive, with revenue remaining stable for the last 2.5 years and fluctuating no more than 10% in either direction. The site is straightforward and easy to maintain. While there’s always a possibility it could be affected by changes in Google Search, it has weathered every major update during the turbulent last five years, making that risk fairly minimal. On the other hand, there are strong opportunities to grow through aggressive off-site promotion, launching active social media accounts (such as Pinterest), and exploring new revenue models for the site.

2️⃣ <1M Range – Apparel Ecommerce Shop

25 years old — $536,000 asking price

We recently completed due diligence for a 25-year-old apparel DTC brand operating in a specific sub-niche. For this project, we conducted a full historical financial review as well as a detailed technical due diligence to verify the accuracy of everything provided by the seller. In cases like this, where the business is more than 10 years old and the deal is more complex due to inventory management, 3PL setup, and other operational factors, we always recommend a transition period of at least six months, during which the seller remains involved as an advisor. This business has experienced a decline in sales over the last two years, largely because most of its revenue has been driven by existing customers. However, lifetime value (LTV) is exceptionally strong for this type of apparel brand, averaging close to $1,000, which highlights the importance of continuing to nurture those customer relationships. The key challenge lies in acquiring new customers. Paid marketing in this space is highly competitive, so thorough research and planning in this area is strongly advisable before committing to the deal.

3️⃣ >1M Range – Science Content Site Earning $128,130/mo

18 years old — $5,580,000 asking price

Every few months, we receive inquiries about content sites listed above the $1M price point. We’re always interested to see how they achieved those numbers and whether they’re sustainable in the foreseeable future. This particular site saw impressive growth over the last 12 months, largely due to heavy promotion in Google Discover. Unfortunately, we advised our client to pass on the opportunity. Google Discover is highly unstable, you never know if your site will be promoted next week, let alone next year. This is especially true for “smaller” or lesser-known sites. Even if your content is stronger than that of traditional media outlets, you could wake up one day and find that 75% of your traffic has disappeared. It’s a great business to own, but nearly impossible to sell.

This site, nearly a decade old in the kids niche, currently earns only through display ads. Both traffic and revenue have been declining over the years, and the content is fairly easy to replicate. Currently, there are around 200 paying subscribers, and profit margins are strong. On the other side of the coin, it’s important to check how new visitors are being acquired. Organic traffic isn’t very high, so it’s worth exploring ways to improve it and researching whether paid channels could be effective here. Ultimately, proper due diligence is needed. A great pickup if you’re in the travel niche, as many of you are. It’s a simple location-based content site earning around $200 per month. If you already have other travel sites in your portfolio and know how to run affiliate marketing, this could be an excellent addition.
