Growth Blueprint

Highlights

  • Excellent month-over-month traffic growth
  • Diversified traffic to top pages (largest is 6%)
  • 442 articles published, 530,000 words
  • Clean backlink profile (no spam, PBNs)
  • Primarily information content vs commercial

Setbacks

  • Targets easy-to-rank keywords; another competitor can outrank over time
  • Grammar can be improved

Easy Wins

  • Interlink the content; there are no contextual links within content
  • Add affiliate links to existing articles to generate revenue from Amazon Associates

Takeaway

I am covering this site because of a few reasons:

  1. It has seen excellent month-over-month growth with 85,000 pageviews across last 30 days
  2. It’s in a low-competition beginner-friendly niche
  3. Seller is willing to sell on a L6M average ($1,570) whereas in recent months it earned $2,679.

The primary issue with this site is the grammar. It’s not the worst but it would be good for an editor to go over the majority of the content. Second, with low-competition keywords it does bring forward more website builders targeting similar keywords. This can be mitigated by adding a few strategic backlinks to strengthen the domain.

Valuation:

The valuation of $62,780 is based on the L6M average using a fair 40X multiple. The seller insisted to utilize July 2022 earnings (extrapolated to the end of the month). I anticipate a $2,500 month in July but it will most likely be more.

Growth Blueprint

Highlights

  • Excellent growth over last 12-months
  • Diversifed revenue from 3 different sources
  • Quality backlinks (e.g., Cosmopolitan, Yahoo, Ask Men, 1-800 Flowers)

Setbacks

  • Competitive niche with larger brands in this space
  • Top page gets 19% of traffic (ideally should be less than 15%); however, top page does not generate the most revenue

Easy Wins

  • Add more higher-paying and well-known dating affiliates into buying guides
  • Add call-to-action buttons and product boxes in buying guides
  • Internal link the informational content to funnel users to buying guides
  • Add display ads (e.g., Ezoic); not recommended due to potential conflict with affiliate earnings but it can be done

Takeaway

The dating niche is extremely lucrative with affiliate payouts that range from $50 up to $150. I have a site in a sub-niche of dating that I’ve owned for many years; you can read the case studies for more information.

This site is well-positioned to continue growing. The easiest of easy wins is to perform CRO. The site has basic elements such as tables, popups, buttons, links within content. The tables can be improved to be more eye-catching and mobile responsive. Many buying guides do not have call-to-action buttons.

There is a good amount of informational content on this site that is not monetized. Adding digital product or course affiliate to this content would result in more revenue.

This website also has excellent backlinks from HARO outreach. I recommend the buyer continue doing link building to ensure the site remains competitive.

The major setback is the competitiveness of this niche. The main commercial keywords are tough to rank for but there are easier ones to go after due to the sheer size of the niche.

Valuation:

The asking price is based on a L12M average, which is in the favor of the buyer. The last few months have shown excellent revenue growth with earnings coming close to $6,000/mo. The L12M average is $3,767. The asking price is $158,424.

Growth Blueprint

This domain could be repositioned to become an informational site all about startups and companies that failed or went out of business. When a popular business closes, there are a lot of curious people searching for information about what happened.

One example of a successful site in this niche is Failory.com with about 80K monthly traffic (AHREFs) from articles about failed startups.

Here’s what I would do:

  1. Find low competition keywords of businesses or startups that closed (e.g., what happened to Clubhouse, why did Vine shut down, Sears stores closing). Publish articles.
  2. Publish listicle articles of businesses that failed in a specific industry (e.g., 7 FinTech startups that failed) and then internal link to the in-depth articles

For monetization, the opportunity is mainly in display ads as the site would attract a general audience. Part of the audience could include business people seeking case studies or conducting market research.

Articles about failed startups could earn a higher RPM and provide an opportunity for lucrative B2B software affiliate programs.

4-Year-Old Health Site Making $3,177/mo on Empire Flippers

Summary

Niche: Health & Fitness

Source: Empire Flippers (see listing)

Profit: $2,712/mo from sponsored posts (31%), Mediavine (28%), affiliate links (21%), digital products (18%), Amazon Affiliate (2%)

Growth Blueprint

Highlights

  • Revenue comes from a diverse set of pages (4)
  • Top page only gets 11% of the site’s traffic
  • Brandable domain name
  • Solid Google EAT

Setbacks

  • May be difficult to expand into other topics
  • Revenue from sponsored posts is against Google ToS which may result in a penalty

Easy Wins

  • Improving CRO can increase revenue up to 15%, or about $450/month
  • Creating an email funnel can improve digital product revenue up to 20%, or about $125/month

Takeaway

There is a lot to like about this site. First, we like that the traffic goes to a diverse set of pages, with the top page getting just 11% of the site’s traffic which means the site is not overly dependent on any single page. One of the rare things about a site at this level of revenue is how balanced the revenue is, with 4 different revenue sources at 18% or more.

Unfortunately, there is some risk the primary source of revenue of sponsored posts is against Google’s TOS.

However, there are a number of opportunities that a new site owner can take advantage of to increase revenue and greatly increase site value. The biggest opportunity lies in improving conversation rate optimization (CRO) to increase conversions and generate more revenue per visitor. By doing this, one can offset the sponsored post revenue and stop it altogether if desired.

Valuation:

The site is listed at $116,612 which represents 43X the site’s average monthly profit over the past 12 months. We recommend targeting a multiple closer to 33X given the risk that the site is against Google’s terms of service.

🚀 Other Sites For Sale

SmartHomeInsider.co.uk â€“ Includes an e-book and mailing list. The site was hit in the Nov 2021 update. The site has stabilized since then. The site is on Ezoic Premium so the new buyer needs to take over the contract. I would ask the seller to pay to “buy out” of the Ezoic contract.
