Today’s Authority Business Blueprints features a site from Flippa in the technology niche and an aged domain in the grooming niche from ODYS Global. I also review a site that’s “too good to be true” from Flippa to showcase why detailed due diligence is critical.

Let’s get into the growth blueprints!

Blueprint #1: Beardition.com

Domain Summary

Type: Aged Domain

Niche: Grooming

Source: ODYS.Global

Age: 2012 (9 years old)

Listed Price: $4,500

Backlinks: This domain has notable backlinks from Entrepreneur, CNBC, Southern Living, The Beard Mag, Creative Mornings, Cool Material, Independent Retailer, and more.

Site History

This site used to be home to a beard grooming brand that sold different products ranging from shaving items, beard products, beard gear, and also gifts and travel sets. The brand also had its own magazine for beard grooming.

Here is a snapshot of the past site:

Growth Blueprint

The men’s grooming niche is lucrative with an excellent mix of informational and commercial content. This site is well-positioned to be revamped into an affiliate/informational website. The new owner can leverage the e-commerce pages into buying guides.

Here is what I would do:

  1. Add informational articles related to beard care, tips, and tricks
  2. Add commercial content related to product buying guides
  3. Develop this into a newsletter as the niche has a strong following

Monetization can be done via display ads, Amazon Associates, and direct affiliates through ShareASale’s network.

Blueprint #2: PCBuilderz.com

Website Summary

Type: Existing Content Site

Niche: Personal Computers

Source: Flippa (see listing here)

Revenue: $328/mo via Amazon Associates over the last-3-months

Growth Blueprint

Highlights

  • Quality links from Lifewire, Gamespace, Geek Insider, and other tech-related domains
  • 170,000+ words across 100 blog posts
  • Well-designed site

Setbacks

  • Hit by Google algorithm update in April 2021
  • Borderline of above 15% of traffic to top-most page
  • Tech niche is always changing; products need to be kept up to date in the content
  • 2.5% commission structure on Amazon; lower than typical 4%

Easy Wins

  • Buying guides need more images of the product linked to Amazon
  • Missing contextual affiliate links
  • Missing call-to-action buttons
  • Minimal internal links

Takeaway

The technology niche, specifically PCs, has an excellent mix of information and commercial keyword opportunities. The niche is also hobbyist-based meaning consumers don’t buy one item, but multiple items. The major setback is commission rates are relatively lower, and products are always changing.

This specific site has a significant amount of content with room for improvement. Many of the informational articles are too short and can be expanded to cover more long-tail keywords. Being in the tech niche, updating buying guide articles and republishing them will provide a boost in traffic.

Valuation: Since the site was hit by the Google update, the last 3-months should be used in the valuation process. The average revenues over last-3-months were $328/mo. At a 35X multiple based on the valuation framework, that puts the site’s value at $11,480.

🤔 “Too Good To Be True”

eDriveNet.com on Flippa

This site from the initial impressions looks great and is in a growing niche of e-mobility. The traffic and earnings are on an uptrend. No toxic links (no quality links either). Here is the traffic and financials snapshot from Flippa:

However, after putting the site through the EasyDiligence.io due diligence dashboard, we find that more than 40% of traffic is going to one article. See dashboard below:

Every other aspect of this site is top-notch; excellent time on page (7 mins), bounce rate (~70%), and up-trending traffic. However, having too much traffic to your top page, in this case, 45%, is high-risk. If that page loses in rankings or gets hit by a penalty, you lose a significant portion of your revenues.

At a first glance, MANY website buyers would miss this and start bidding on the auction. Make sure to get deep into the data, or use tools like EasyDiligence.io to expedite the process and catch red flags.
