Welcome to Week 11! Today’s Authority Business Blueprints will feature websites from Flippa, Niche Website Builders, and ODYS.
Don’t forget to check out my selection of “Other Quality Sites” and the “Too Good To Be True Sites” at the end.
Let’s get into the growth blueprints!
Blueprint #1: BossOyster.com
Type: Expired Domain
Source: Niche Website Builders
Age: 2014 (7 years ago)
This is a package deal for the domain, site build, and content:
- Domain: $795
- Site Build + 100K words of content: $6,495
- Total: $7,290
Backlinks: This site has notable backlinks from Tasting Table, Chef’s Feed, Telegrah.co.uk, Thrillist, Deep South Mag, Visit Florida, and more.
This site was run by a seafood restaurant called Boss Oyster based in Florida. Boss Oyster was home of the “World Famous Oysters from Apalachicola Bay”. Boss Oyster used their own oyster-men who selected, harvested, and handled their oysters from the Apalachicola Bay in Florida.
In 2019, the site showed a message saying that the restaurant was closing. They remain closed to this day.
This is a snapshot of the past site:
There is not much competition in the niche of “oysters”. This would make for an authority site discussing how to cook oysters, what tools are needed, beginner’s guides, recipes, among other topics.
There are not many purely dedicated sites to oysters, but some examples of sites that have silos include Crabsman.com, and CocklesAndMussels.com.
Blueprint #2: TrustyGuitar.com
Type: Content site
Source: Flippa (see listing)
Revenue: $854/mo over last 6-months from Guitar Tricks’ affiliate program and Amazon Associates US
- Aged website since 2013
- Brandable domain
- Ranks for lucrative keywords like “how to learn guitar”
- Good niche relevant backlinks
- Quality content is written by the owner
- Content is optimized by Clearscope AI content tool
- No Google Analytics traffic history
- Seller had PBNs added but they were removed in 2016
Here are the easy wins:
- Add call-to-action buttons and/or call-out boxes to the “How To Learn Guitar” article. This will increase earnings to GuitarTricks affiliate program
- Amazon affiliate pages have no comparison tables, callout boxes, contextual links, or call-to-action buttons. Adding these will increase revenues.
- Link product images to affiliate programs
- Try Guitar Center affiliate program with Amazon Associates side-by-side
- Adding Ezoic display adds will add approximately $100/mo at current traffic levels
- Many keywords left to target that are low-competition
Out-Of-The-Box Upside Opportunity: Newsletter
I am bullish on adding on a newsletter element to any niche site to transform it into a real business.
There is a newsletter for sale for $1,200 with 2,000 subscribers with a 40% open rate over at Duuce marketplace. The newsletter is called Guitarpick and is a dedicated newsletter sharing video lessons for people to learn.
This could be a good auxiliary acquisition with this business to jumpstart a quality newsletter.
This is a quality site in the lucrative guitar niche. There are various affiliate programs that sell training courses to affiliate products.
This site has earned $854/month over the last 6 months. The easy win tweaks above should increase revenue by $200-$300 per month in terms of affiliate revenue plus display ads will boost another $100.
The site at its current earnings is valued at $25,620 to $27,328. With the upside, I estimate the value is at $37,620 to $40,128.
An excellent site to add to your portfolio.
Blueprint #3: SmokiOsBBQ.com
Type: Expired Domain
Age: 2012 (9 years old)
Listed Price: $1,460
Backlinks: The site has notable links from lifestyle pages on Yahoo, FoodAndWine, SouthernLiving.com, and AirBnb Canada & Australia.
Smoki O’s BBQ is a barbeque restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri.
Smoki O’s was created by a man named Otis Walker. Otis started Smoki O’s with a family BBQ recipe in 1997 and created a food booth at the Soulard Market. Smoki O’s served as a food vendor in the St. Louis area and worked up to opening a restaurant in the heart of St. Louis. They’re still open today and have a 4.4 of 5 Google rating from 446 people.
Here is a snapshot of the past site:
This domain could be used to build a site in the BBQ niche covering a whole range of products related to BBQ tools, grills, process, etc.
Here is what I would do:
- Add information content (how-to, what, why) on BBQ-related topics
- Add buying guides and product reviews of BBQ related products
- A dedicated newsletter for BBQ tips and tricks
A few example sites to mimic include SmokedBBQSource.com, and FoodFireFriends.com. This is a lucrative niche with a die-hard audience.
🔥 Other Quality Sites
TinyHomeGeniuses.com: Interesting starter site with about 1,000 page views per month in the tiny home niche. This is a growing niche and has been trending for the past few years. This could be a good pickup for a long-term hold. There are many irrelevant articles on the site that should be deleted and de-indexed.
🙅♂️ “Too Good To Be True” Sites
World-of-Lucid-Dreaming.com: Overall, this is an excellent website. The site is legitimate DR 57 with excellent backlinks and aged since 2008 earning around $4,500/mo. However, the challenges I see are an un-brandable domain causing resell issues down the road and difficulty finding legitimate writers with true credentials in the niche. The owner states to expand into shoulder niches (e.g., dream interpretation, consciousness, and spirituality) but you would be hard-pressed to find affordable writers; this will eat up most of the profits. A very quality site nonetheless but some things to keep in mind.
These blueprints lay-out the high-level strategies to accelerate your ROI after the acquisition. Of course, the real effort is putting all of this into practice.
Make sure to review the “Too Good To Be True” and “Other Quality Site” sections. Doing as much due diligence as possible will ensure you hone your skillsets in finding good deals and opportunities in the future.
