page title icon Authority Business Blueprints – Feb 1 – Week 8

Welcome to Week 8! Today’s Authority Business Blueprints will feature sites from Flippa, and domains from Niche Website Flippers, and ODYS.

Don’t forget to check out my selection of “Other Quality Sites” at the end. None of the new content site listings this week that I track made it to the “Too Good To Be True Sites” (which is a good thing overall) so that’s being omitted this week.

Let’s get into the growth blueprints!

Blueprint #1: iBatReviews.com

Note: This is site is being brokered by The Website Flip on Flippa. Check out the listing here.

Niche: Baseball

Source: Flippa (see listing)

Revenue: $1,013/month over last 6-months via Amazon Associates USA

AHREFS:

Growth Blueprint

Pros:

  • Ranking for multiple high competition buyer intent keywords in a strong niche
  • No display ads – buyers can immediately increase earnings by adding display ads
  • A lot of the new content added to the site ranks at the bottom of the 1st page, or on the 2nd page. A couple of links and on-page SEO will get these keywords ranking in the top positions on the first page.
  • Diversified traffic to top pages – the top page only receives 7% of the overall traffic
  • Multiple affiliate programs in the niche available

Cons:

Here are my recommend easy wins with this site:

  • Add Ezoic for immediate earnings increase with minimal impact to affiliate revenue
  • The comparison tables on high-traffic pages are not mobile responsive, lack of CTA button and the titles are not linked to Amazon
  • Images within product reviews are not linked to Amazon
  • Adding AAWP product boxes after each review would result in more clickthrough to Amazon

Takeaway

This site was acquired by a niche website builder (a member of this newsletter) that understands how to grow websites. He grew the site to what it is today earning about $1,013/mo across the last 6 months.

The site has easy wins that could propel it forward by improving the CRO of different elements on the site.

The monetization strategy is via Amazon Associates only. However, there are various training products, etc for the baseball niche on Clickbank that can be tested.

Blueprint #2: RogueRods.com

Type: Expired domain

Niche: Fishing

Source: Niche Website Builders

Age: 2002

Listed Price:

This is a package deal for the domain, site build, and content:

  • Domain: $995
  • Site Build + 100K words of content: $6,495
  • Total: $7,490

AHREFS:

Backlinks: Backlinks from high DR niche relevant domains such as Tackle Tour, BD Outdoors, Fish Sniffer, Western Bass, Marine WayPoints, and 67 other referring domains.

Site History:

Rogu Rods was a U.S. based fishing rod manufacture. They did all of their R&D and manufacturing in the U.S. They built premium rods that did a better job of casting, feeling, hooking, and fighting than the competition.

Over the years, they covered various topics on their site related to rods such as fly rods, bass casting rods, bass crankbaits, salmon rods, among many other niche relevant topics. In 2019, they ceased operations and the domain expired just recently.

Here is a snapshot of the past site:

Growth Blueprint

This site would make for an excellent authority site in the fishing niche. The initial focus would be to keep the site focused on it’s original core competency, which was fishing rods.

This is what I would do:

  1. Create a fishing rod category and write information and commercial content about fishing rods. Add about 50-100 articles on this topic to really get the topical relevancy going
  2. Branch out into other fishing gear like fish finders, fish scales, among other gear
  3. Niche is friendly for good how-to, tutorials, “what is” type of content. Focus 75% of the content on informational content.

Monetization would be via Amazon Associates and display ads via Ezoic, to begin with. However, I would branch out into Bass Pro shops affiliate program, Hook & Tackle program, and fishing digital products.

Blueprint #3: RubysGarden.com

Type: Expired domain

Niche: Kids/Toys/Gifts

Source: ODYS.Global

Age: 2006 (15 years old)

Listed Price: $1,820

AHREFS:

Backlinks: Notable backlinks from CBS, Homestead, Bidding For Good, and 80 other referring domains.

Site History:

Rubys Garden is highly brandable .com name that represents everything about kids, toys, and gifts. It featured a blog section, and an online store for a site that sold toys and gifts for kids.

It was also a physical business that sold clothes for babies and children, local-grown flowers for events and special occasions, and an in-house gift wrapping service for their products.

Here is a snapshot of the past site:

Growth Blueprint

I would build a niche site for kids toys. I’ve seen many sites with low DR ranking for keywords such as “best toys for…”. Check out the below screenshot from AHREFs showing such keywords (or go to specific AHREFs search here):

The content for these sites is easy to outsource, and there’s low competition. Not only that, there are variations of these keywords for both boys and girls (e.g., best toys for 7 year old girls). These keywords would do well during the holiday run up.

This is exactly what I would do:

  • Target the domain initially to be about toys. Write commercial content for all variations of “best toys for” keywords.
  • Write informational content related to picking toys (e.g., Montessori toys, toy subscription boxes, brain games).
  • Expand into other shoulder niches related to kids products

The site can be monetized with Amazon Associates, kids toy subscription boxes (e.g., CrateJoy via ShareASale network), and display ads. Over time, you can add in digital products if desired.

Blueprint #4: CoastProtein.com

Type: Expired Domain

Niche: Nutrition/Food

Source: ODYS.Global

Age: 2015 (6 years old)

Listed Price: $4,370

AHREFS:

Backlinks: Notable backlinks from Business Insider, Kickstarter, Vancouver Sun (plus other news outlets), and 116 other referring domains that featured this e-commerce brand.

Site History:

Coast Protein is a highly brandable domain in the nutrition and health niche. It featured informational recipes and listed its own branded protein powders and energy bars on the site.

The business was also environmentally-friendly, with all of it’s high-protein food products and recipes supporting a reduced carbon footprint.

Here is a snapshot of the past site:

Growth Blueprint

The domain in the past was covering protein. The domain could be repurposed to build an authority site discussing fitness and supplements.

Here is exactly what I would do:

  1. Focus initially on protein keywords (e.g., best protein for…). This will ensure strong topical relevancy with the original site.
  2. Branch out to other sub-niches like fitness, weight training, and other supplements.
  3. Hire a few influencers in this area to give your site credibility. Follow this guide by Matt Diggity.

The site can be monetized with various e-commerce brands’ affiliate programs such as Vega, Bodybuilding.com, Naked Nutrition, among others. Furthermore, there are lucrative CPA payouts in this niche which can be found using OfferVault.com. See the example below:

The niche is competitive but lucrative if done right.

🔥 Other Quality Sites

Here are other deal(s) for sale on the open market that you can check out:

BestHomeFixer.com: This site is available on the Motion Invest platform. The site was impacted in November and December 2020 with a traffic drop but immediately rebounded. The main reason to cover this site is that the top 10 pages bringing in traffic are not optimized at all for earnings. No comparison tables, no product boxes, CTAs can be improved, no contextual affiliate links exit on the site. In addition, the on-page SEO is weak which can be improved by increasing internal linking and improving the overall flow of the site.

Wrap Up

These blueprints lay-out the high-level strategies to accelerate your ROI after the acquisition. Of course, the real effort is putting all of this into practice.

Make sure to review the “Too Good To Be True” and “Other Quality Site” sections. Doing as much due diligence as possible will ensure you hone your skillsets in finding good deals and opportunities in the future.
